Attendance
**Please be aware that all notes must be received within 72 business hours of the absence for them to be accepted.**
Absences may be excused for four reasons:
- Personal Illness
- Death in the Immediate Family
- School / Sports Related Absence
- Statutorily allowed reasons under compulsory attendance laws (requires documentation). For example, college visits, religious & holy days, military recruitment, and court appearances.
Reporting an Absence:
We are no longer able to accept emails as documentation of a student’s absence. Upon return to school (within three days), you must electronically submit, through the form above, the reason for absence. Refer to the reasons above for an excused absence. Notes may not be brought to the Attendance Office. Please note: if a student is absent 3 or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required upon the student's return to school.
Attendance Error Question:
If you find your student’s attendance is in error, please email the teacher directly to inquire about the absence. When the attendance office receives a correction from the teacher, the attendance will be corrected. Please do not contact the attendance office, as we cannot change any attendance. Corrections must come from the teacher of record.
Leaving School Early:
A parent/guardian must be present to sign out the student who leaves campus during school hours, except for student drivers. A parent's signature and the reason for leaving are required. Sign-out sheets do not excuse your student’s attendance. The Report an Absence 2025-2026 Google form will still be needed, along with the appropriate documentation to excuse absence(s).
- Any student who arrives 1-20 minutes late is considered tardy. If 20 minutes late to a class or more, they are counted absent.
- We stop calling students out of class at 3:00 pm for early dismissal.
Please do not try to check your student out from the main office after 3:00 pm.
- Juniors and Seniors may have 2 approved absences for college visits per year. These visits will not affect exemptions or credit but must be approved via the College Visit Request Google form, documented with a note from the college, and submitted within 48 hours of the visit.
- If you need a VOE (Verification of Enrollment), please complete this form. *** PLEASE NOTE: YOUR VOE MAY TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS TO PROCESS. The VOE will be filled the following Monday after you fill out the request form, unless the following Monday lands on a holiday or the school is closed***
- Students must attend 90% of a class to receive credit for that class. This threshold includes both excused and unexcused absences. If a student is not physically present in class, regardless of the reason, the student’s total attendance percentage is reduced. Students who do not attend 90% of a class are in danger of failing the class because of absences and will be referred to an attendance committee.
- To receive credit in a class, a student must attend at least 90% of the days the class is offered. A student who has at least 75% but fewer than 90% may receive credit for the class if he/she completes a plan approved by the Headmaster that allows the student to fulfill the instructional requirements for the class.
